A book about the strength of nature and man's ability to adapt to this law, set in one of the least known and most beautiful areas of Italy. In August 2016, Francesca Capodiferro, a young geologist and team leader of the Rome fire brigade, found herself on a mission in the Laga mountains, on the border between Lazio, Marche and Abruzzo. On the evening of the 24th, with his search dogs, he decides to camp on the mountain above Amatrice but, that very night, violent earthquakes destroy the town and all the surrounding hamlets. Francesca will be among the first to arrive on the scene and organize the rescue, initially with makeshift means, then helped by the men of her team. She has always had difficult, almost conflictual relationships with them: "her" firefighters obey her but don't love her and this sometimes causes problems even during emergency operations. After unexpected meetings, separations and reunions, reinforcements arrive but Francesca, emotionally affected by the tragedy and the conflicts that arose with her colleagues, decides to leave alone in search of the missing and people stranded in the surrounding valleys, searching the farmhouses, caves and in the shelters offered by the woods, where people hid out of fear. His journey will be a difficult one, in the pain and beauty of nature, sometimes so violent and indifferent to human affairs. But it will also be a necessary journey to discover, within himself, the reasons for his mission and finally reconcile with life, his men, his work. Franco Faggiani confirms his ability to describe landscapes and situations by involving the reader in a story of love and courage. A novel in which feelings have a predominant role and are protagonists together with men and animals are the means to get closer to the secrets of nature.
