The St Paul Trail

New edition of the St Paul Trail guide, following the saint's journey from Perge, near Antalya, to Pisidian Antioch. St Paul Trail is Turkey's second longest trek and is approximately 500 km long of signposted route on Roman roads, village paths and medieval trails through the Toros Mountains. The book is complemented by a map (attached to the book), a website with trail updates (www.cultureroutesinturkey.com), an iPhone application and downloadable GPS points. The landscape is characterized by the Toros mountains and the contrasts of the Lake District between forests, canyons and ridges; the secondary streets are ancient historic streets, hospitality is a natural instinct in every home. This seductive combination will delight every walker. The peaks, lakes and valleys on this trek offer a different perspective on Turkey from the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, which attract so many tourists. Unlike the mountains of eastern Turkey - the fabulous Kackar and Aladaglar which attract adventure-seeking trekkers during a short trekking season - the Toros mountains and lakes are easily accessible. More importantly, the area has numerous historical artifacts that testify to St. Paul's travels in the area. Turkey now has 15 long-distance treks for hikers, across widely varying terrain.
