A philosophical, poetic and scientific reflection dedicated to human movement and its most illustrious representative: the group journey. A literary experiment that investigates, through considerations, cultural explorations, images and stories, the peculiarities of being together while walking. In this book the author analyses, starting from the theory of group walking up to the social practices of walking, what function walking has today with respect to the overall discomfort that man feels in the societies he lives in, with particular reference to Western society. The question that animates the entire text is: can walking today have a role in salvation, care, assistance, training, surveillance for man and for the suffering, both physical and mental, that he experiences? The answer does not take into consideration the journey as an individual gesture. Each individual experience, if lived alone, is only a first phase of the process of personal maturation, however necessary. To acquire a more complete and profound meaning it must be shared with the rest of men, pass through the scrutiny of collective recognition. In this text, therefore, the journey is approached from the point of view of the group that shares a journey on foot. In fact, in his evolutionary history, man has never walked alone, but always and only in a group. From mountain therapy to judicial paths, from the experience of leading a group to the role of the path for the formation of individuals, this essay is an attempt to investigate the special relationship between path and sociality. How the two elements influence each other, whether there is a peculiarity of the sociality on the journey, whether there is a particular meaning that the journey gives to the group and the group to the journey. How all this can be useful for the improvement of our human condition in the future.
