Guide to climbing in the Flatirons, Colorado area, with route sketches on photos. Major Areas: Sacred Cliffs, Gregory Canyon, Chautauqua Park, Ncar, Bear Canyon, Cragmoor, and South Mesa Trail. This is the comprehensive guidebook covering the Flatirons area that forms the skyline above Boulder City. The crags here are up to 350m high and are a mixture of sandstone and conglomerate rock. Flatirons is home to many fantastic routes spanning the whole grade range from modern sport climbs to classic traditional multi-pitch outings. The routes here are generally slabby but the traditional routes have a reputation for being of a serious nature due to the sometimes sparse gear placements. The best times to climb in the area is either spring or autumn as the summer can be quite hot. This guidebook covers the entire area, Sacred Cliffs, Gregory Canyon, Chautauqua Park, Ncar, Bear Canyon, Cragmoor, and South Mesa Trail. The author, Jason Haas, has climbed 97% of the routes spending time to document the grades as consistently as possible. The guidebook goes into great detail about how to navigate the area, with detailed location maps for each main area with driving and parking information. GPS co-ordinates are provided for all the main crags along with descent information. All routes are shown on color photo-topos along with route descriptions.
