The county of Somerset is predominantly flat in the central part and crossed by several rivers that flow towards the Bristol Channel while the Exe, which rises in the far west of the county, flows into the English Channel. In the north of the county rise the Mendip Hills which reach 325 meters in height with the Beacon Batch. The territory of Wiltshire is characterized by large valleys. In particular, the Salisbury Valley extends to the centre-south, where the city of the same name with its imposing cathedral is located. This part of the county is crossed by the River Avon which flows down to the English Channel. In the south-west rise the hilly ranges of Cranborne Chase and the West Wiltshire Downs.
