The Brecon Beacons range extends from west to east in south-east Wales and south of the River Usk valley and reaches its greatest height at Pen y Fan (886 m). Glamorgan is a maritime county in Wales, which in the Middle Ages was the area of the kingdom of Morgannwg, founded by King Morgan. At one point it was united with the neighboring kingdoms of Gwent and Ergyng. After Gwent, it was the second Welsh area to fall to the Normans and was often the scene of clashes and battles between the Welsh and the conquerors.
