La Via Francigena in bicicletta - Tratto 2 da Fidenza a Siena

The 350 kilometers of this second stretch are among the most evocative of the entire route and unravel between dirt roads and asphalted but secondary routes: from the cathedral of Fidenza to the spectacular one of Berceto, from the villages perched along the Cisa pass to those immersed in the chestnut woods of Lunigiana, from the white marble quarries of Versilia to the town of Pietrasanta, the Athens of Italy, to the greenery of Garfagnana. Then a visit to some remote medieval parish church, a ride along an original paved stretch of the old Francigena route; and also the city walls of Lucca - perfectly practicable by bicycle - the remains of ancient abbeys, the towers of San Gimignano, the crenellated profile of Monteriggioni, the rows of cypresses, the olive trees, the vineyards.
