This guide follows the entire course of the Moselle River, from its source in the Vosges mountains of eastern France to its confluence with the Rhine in the western German city of Koblenz. The well-signposted route reaches historic Nancy and Metz, crosses into Luxembourg and continues through the spectacular Moselle Gorge, where the river takes a sinuous path between the Hunsrück and the Eifel Mountains. The great attraction for the cyclist of following a river from its source is that, once you reach the start, it's all downhill. From the source, easily reachable near the Col de Bussang, the Moselle cycle path descends to the Rhine at Koblenz. In Koblenz, the route can be connected with the Rhine cycle path. In addition to the main route, variants lead to Toul on the Boucles de Moselle, Luxembourg Ville in the Duchy of Luxembourg and through the Rhine and Saar gorges. Accommodation and dining options are plentiful. The route is mostly asphalted, and the itinerary is suitable for both expert cyclists and those who have not done much cycle touring and want to start with something simple. Where roads are used, they are usually quiet country roads. This guide proposes the route in 14 stages, with an average of just over 36 km per day for a total of 512 km.
