Due bambine in Karakorum

Marta and Elena are five and seven years old respectively when, on the back of a jeep, walking or on horseback, they spend two months in the mountains of Pakistan. Their parents, always present, let them do their thing: they observe them as they approach these pristine lands, as they invent games on the dusty roads or seek contact with the locals, whose sympathy they easily win over. Renata, the mother, tells the story, while Luca, the father, the driving force behind the adventures, immortalizes the most beautiful moments of this experience with photography. For two consecutive years they travel for months in the Karakorum mountains, between severe environments and essential spaces. They experienced sharing freshly baked bread, dozens of meetings in the countries they crossed, but also a lot of silence, like the vault in the middle of the glaciers. Renata and Luca travel driven by the desire to discover the world, and the girls grow up traveling with them; the one in Karakorum, in fact, is neither their first nor their last trip. They make them live in nature as much as possible, making them experience the cold and the heat, the fatigue and the charm of the mountains. They educate them about beauty and diversity, confident that these teachings will leave them free to appreciate, evaluate and choose in the years to come. And so it was: today Marta and Elena are two adult girls and they wanted to actively contribute, with memories and reflections, to this book which is not just the accumulation of their mother's intimate notes, but is a glimpse of their childhood, free and happy, which made them the strong and capable women of today.
