Valtellina Bloc

This guide was born from the idea of enhancing the so-called "minor" areas present in Valtellina and Val Chiavenna, often obscured by the immense fame of Val Masino, in order to offer a valid alternative to climbers interested in new discoveries. The areas listed are scattered from the upper Val Chiavenna up to Bormio and Val di Dentro, including the thriving Val Malenco and excluding Val Masino and Val di Mello, with, however, the addition of an exhaustive compendium of all the small areas with a limited number of passages, often known exclusively to local climbers. One of the main fortunes of the Valtellina area is certainly the great variety of its rocks, granite, serpentine and limestone, as well as the beauty of the places in which the boulders lie, often immersed in fresh and colorful broad-leaved forests. The best periods for climbing often coincide with the autumn and winter weeks, with the exception of the areas of upper Valtellina, which can also be climbed in the summer period given the high altitude.
