The sacred and the profane, considered two opposite dimensions, were not so distant for the man of the past, they came together daily and those who believed in a supreme being certainly could not live by spirit alone. Thus over time, gestures, rituals, customs, beliefs, proverbs were born, which formed that immense cultural baggage that characterized the peasant world of the past. Today, peasant civilization has inexorably crossed the threshold of decline and modern society has erased most of the ancient traditions, but the contradictions of human existence remain as in the past.
