I sentieri della libertà in provincia di Cuneo

The Paths of Freedom in the province of Cuneo is a precious guide created as part of the European project "The Memory of the Alps" which presents a series of hiking proposals on the routes traveled by partisans and civilians fleeing during the Resistance period. Through the Paths of Freedom, travelers breathe not only glimpses of history, but those values that animated the Resistance struggle. The publication, in fact, aims to accompany us to listen, step by step, to the suggestions and stories of the Second World War, in the form of circular routes that widen from the Infernotto valley to the Langhe and which end in the plain. Walking on the paths, you can thus discover the birth of a Garibaldi partisan formation in the Po valley, tread the footprints of Nazi-fascist roundups in the Varaita valley, or even capture the dreams of a new Europe. Or meditate on the ordeal of the Jews fleeing from France in September 1943, across the Finestre and Ciriegia hills, to finally pursue that broad phenomenon of transmigration that brought the Alpine formations to the heart of the Langhe. Or finally, we travel through places still steeped in the memory of the battles of Valcasotto, of "Pasqua" in the Pesio valley and of the harsh round-ups between Piedmont, Liguria and Provence and of the desperate escape to France of the "Rosselli" Brigade, under the command by Nuto Revelli. A book that invites us to walk, taking in the stimuli that come to us from the natural but also and above all historical and cultural environment that surrounds us.
