The volume, very rich in information on the most beautiful and important mountains of the Ligurian, Maritime and southern Cottian Alps, originates from the previous Vette delle Alpi dalla Liguria al Monviso, published way back in 1996 and out of print for several years. In the old "Vette" 59 mountains were described, «chosen among the most beautiful and significant for their altitude, grandeur, position, panorama and mountaineering history». In this volume there are 84 mountains, with 119 itineraries: the easiest and most logical to climb to the top, the so-called "normal routes". The photographs that illustrate the book are largely unpublished, many with itinerary layouts, to facilitate identification. The difficulties of the routes range from excursions accessible to all, to not very difficult mountaineering, following in the footsteps of the pioneers of the late nineteenth century.
