The description of the snow and ice itineraries existing on the Apennine ridge between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany continues and ends with this volume. The work takes into consideration the mountains further east and includes the Giovo-Rondinaio, Alpe delle Tre Potenze, Monte Gomito, Monte Cimone, Libro Aperto, Monte Spigolino, Monte Corno alle Scale groups, of which it describes 99 winter mountaineering routes. In winter the Apennines transform into an ideal playground for activities ranging from ski mountaineering to dry tooling, through the various intermediate nuances. In fact, when in the cold season the steep grassy or mixed terrain of the Apennines is covered with snow and the shaky rocks are held together by the frost, this acquires greater stability which allows numerous climbing possibilities. The gullies, natural directions that cut through the major walls, were the first to be climbed, but in particular conditions the snow makes it possible to climb a great variety of itineraries, explored systematically only in recent years. The Apennines therefore reveal themselves not only to be an excellent training ground for mountaineering on snow and ice to be practiced on larger mountain ranges, but more and more often it becomes a place to express specific, profitable and high-level mountaineering.
