Everest 1996

On May 10, 1996, two expeditions laboriously reached the 8,848 meter summit of Everest. The return was dramatic and five people lost their lives in a storm of unprecedented violence. The tragedy would have reached greater dimensions without the intervention of the Russian guide Anatoly Bukreev, who alone in the storm, at night, without oxygen, managed to bring three people to safety.
