Calcare di marca

First on 24 August 2016, then on 30 October, interspersed and followed by an incredible and tragic trail of minor events, a terrible earthquake hit the area in southern Marche, between Lazio, Umbria and Abruzzo. The beloved high lands of the Sibillini have been devastated, first of all due to the tragic number of human lives lost, but also for the resulting upheaval of cities, towns and hamlets, with consequences that - especially in the Ascoli area - will perhaps be felt for decades. Walls and cliffs were also heavily affected. Entire mountain routes have disappeared, swallowed up by gigantic collapses; some sites were shocked (how can we not think of Forca Canapine) and forced us to undertake a long process of revisiting, which is not yet completed. We hope that this guide can also make its small contribution to a recovery of our territory which, even before being economic, must be human and social. But this new edition of Calcare di Marca also stands out from the previous one for the meticulous and accurate work on the old historic crags and on the tasty innovations that have emerged in the last five years, thanks to an incredible vertical ferment (especially in Frasassi and surrounding areas) and a renewed commitment of old and new bolters (the latter very active in the Urbino area); with an additional look to the south, between Marche and Abruzzo, in an area of rare naturalistic and environmental beauty.
