After several years from the first release, here is this third edition, modernized in graphics and updated in contents, which becomes part of the extensive series of "CAI Manuals". This new volume aims to be a support for those who dedicate themselves to climbing via ferratas, finding in it useful information to deepen their technical-mountaineering knowledge linked to their use, both from a historical and material point of view. In it the reader will find notes on the birth and development of these itineraries, a series of technical information regarding their construction and suitable and approved materials for practicing this activity. The text is also enriched by numerous practical experiences, conducted both in the laboratory and on the field, carried out in recent years by the members of the two structures: CSMT and CNSASA. With this new edition of "Safety on via ferratas: materials and techniques", the Materials and Techniques Study Center and the National Commission for Mountaineering, Ski Mountaineering and Free Climbing Schools wanted to continue the synergistic work begun with the first edition, demonstrating once again particular attention for a category, often wrongly overlooked, of numerous passionate mountain lovers.
