In the 1980s in North America the possibility of skiing large mountains, with extreme slopes, was discovered. A trend already known in the Alps, but which had not yet spread to the Rocky Mountains, due to the enormous distances to reach these slopes from population centers and the extremely cold temperatures. The use of helicopters to speed up these transfers suddenly opens up a paradise for lovers of extreme skiing. Among all these, the best, the bravest and the most stylish is Doug Coombs. A native of Massachusetts, from a young age he developed a passion for skiing, which led him first to win the Extreme Skiing World Championship in Valdez, Alaska, then to extend his range of action to Europe, where his fame began expands like wildfire. He died tragically in La Grave, France, while trying to rescue a friend who had fallen off a cliff. The author, Robert Cocuzzo, retraces the epic story of the greatest American extreme skier. The gripping, cinematic story alternates fragments of Coomba's life (as he was called by his friends) with Cocuzzo's experiences in the places and with the people who marked the life of the American champion.
