San Valentin, la spedizione sudafricana

Year: 1998 Duration: 26 minutes Mount San Valentin is the highest peak in northern Chilean Patagonia. Six young South African mountaineers attempt to climb it by organizing a small expedition which from Puerto Montt, a thousand kilometers from Santiago, reaches the edges of the San Raphael glacier by sea and from there the summit after two weeks of adventures along a crevassed expanse of ice and steep mountain walls. Nothing exceptional, an expedition like many others, but it is the way of telling it that makes this film unique and extremely exciting. In fact, there is no trace of rhetoric, no celebratory intent: the spontaneity and good humor of this group of kids are the true protagonists of a "small" film that any mountaineer filmmaker could make and which was truly missing in the panorama of mountain cinema .
