Reaching the summit of Nanga Parbat is a dream that has pushed mountaineers of every generation, from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day, to go under the slopes of the Himalayan giant with the hope of being able to touch its frozen peak of 8125 metres. On the ninth mountain on earth, the myths of mountaineering have come and gone, from the visionary Albert Mummery to the solitary conquest of Hermann Buhl, passing through the brothers Reinhold and Günther Messner, arriving at the unstoppable climbers of the Polish school and concluding, for now, with Simone Moro and the first winter ascent. Men united by the desire to explore a vertical world that has handed them down to posterity as legends of Himalayan mountaineering. Mountaineers who were able to go beyond statistics and the reckless nickname of "killer mountain" to leave their traces in its eternal ice. A journey that lasted over a hundred years which currently ends on 26 February 2016 with the first winter climbers. A historical ending that leaves a question arising spontaneously: who knows what the near future holds for us.
