What has become of the Arno? What do we do with this immense river today? What do we do with all our rivers? This book is not a memory walk among the currents. Instead, it is the dense, passionate and timely story of a journey of research, listening and discoveries, made on foot, by bike, by boat, by car; a slow journey populated by questions that change step by step and wave after wave. It is a journey to understand what is there now, how we live this river which can be many other rivers, which passes through towns, parks, skeletons of a job that no longer exists or the sprout of one to be invented; this river that moves near highways, that hisses under bridges, that is agitated or stagnant, that divides communities into two banks, that attracts and scares at the same time. Water reluctant to barriers and borders, which seems ungovernable and yet becomes a metaphor for politics, for making and breaking communities. A discovered vein to which we have often turned our backs, but which digs, changes, pulsates not only in the territories, but also within the intimacy of women and men.
