Over the centuries the mountain pasture has been the pivot of the Alpine economy, where self-consumption was the norm, without being far from the major commercial flows. In much of the Western Alps, beyond political borders, the term mountain also indicated - let's say above all - the mountain pasture, the humanized high mountain. The mountain pasture was the mountain par excellence. We therefore try to understand the origin, the organization, the originality, the daily life, the immense cultural heritage handed down by these communities who for generations have inhabited, managed, modified and animated the high alpine pastures.
