Il regno dei Cozii

Two thousand years ago the Alps definitively became part of the Roman Empire. This annexation was, in most cases, highly dramatic for the indigenous populations. In a small area of the Western Alps, however, the passage was relatively calm and painless, thanks to the political skill of an indigenous dynasty, that of the Cozii, who knew how to earn the respect of Rome by skilfully balancing armed resistance and willingness to dialogue. This book narrates the events that took place in those places in the critical period that goes from 58 BC, the date of Caesar's first passage, to 63 AD, the year of the death of the last indigenous ruler. That was a century of fundamental importance for the political, historical and economic evolution of the populations who inhabited those remote valleys, giving rise to a social situation of great stability which even survived the collapse of the Roman Empire, and whose final echoes can still be perceived today.
