Free - Il Cerro Torre e io

“You don't have the slightest chance of making it!” So said sport climbing legend Jim Bridwell, when David Lama presented him with his plan. But David, then a nineteen-year-old European climbing champion, did not let himself be discouraged: he wanted to free climb the compressor route of Cerro Torre, 900 meters of vertical granite which over the years, starting from Cesare Maestri's attempt, had been the scene of many feats unfinished and most spectacular in world mountaineering. He spent three winters at the foot of the legendary peak of Patagonia, until, in January 2012, together with climbing partner Peter Ortner, David Lama finally managed to free climb to the top of Cerro Torre and move a little further further the bar of the "impossible" in mountaineering.
