Eiger

Nordwand in German means North Wall. A generic term only in appearance, because for all mountaineers it is associated with a very specific face: the North face of the Eiger. Among all the great mountains of the Alps, the Eiger is the one that has required the highest toll of human lives: the sudden meteorological changes, the frequent showers of stones and ice and the vertical development of 1800 meters still make it a coveted and prestigious, a challenge in which in addition to technical ability, a certain amount of luck is always required. Through original and often unpublished images, the history of the infamous Nordwand is retraced, from the first expeditions of the 1930s up to the great feat completed in 2010 by the German Robert Jasper and the Swiss Roger Schaeli: the first free ascent of the Direttissima Harlin.
