This is the reprint of the first "alpine culture notebook", the one that inaugurated the successful series in 1983, which has now reached the goal of seventy titles. In fact, enthusiasts liked the idea of dealing with the world of the Alps by areas and topics. The aim was to highlight the human contribution, ranging from the past to the present and dealing with the history, activities, resources, festivals and traditions of the Alpine people , to demonstrate how deep-rooted their culture is and how relevant it still is. Without ever forgetting the effort of generations and generations of men and women who, with ancient wisdom, have managed to shape the environment by allying themselves with Mother Nature and respecting her severe laws. It is not for nothing that the first book in the series (this reprint) deals with houses and their ensembles, that is, with the architectural and landscape values expressed by the Occitan people, a linguistic minority that inhabits the south of the Western Italian Alps and that shares speech and culture with the adjacent Dauphiné and with Alpine Provence. This notebook also inaugurated a series of twelve research studies, almost a series within a series which, fanning out over the entire arc of the Italian Alps, analyzed the peasant houses by sectors, distinguished on the basis of the history and culture of the people who lived there. they live. A complete picture was missing from the Italian book scene and it was necessary to establish its characteristics before many of its most interesting testimonies disappeared.
