The forest has always had a central role in the relationship between human communities and the territory. Sacred place, protection for villages, fundamental resource such as firewood, for the construction of homes or for crafts, forests have always also represented the reality around which the collective imagination of the community materializes, as a magical and mysterious in which to discover symbols and meanings that are lost in the depths of the collective unconscious. Piedmont is a region particularly rich in woods, considering the large extension of the mountain areas which still today retain good plant cover, without forgetting some important lowland forests which remind us of the ancient appearance of the Po plain. This book, deliberately informative, but with a rigorously scientific language, it presents the woods of Piedmont from various aspects, from scientific fact sheets to historical references, legends and fairy tales.
