On May 15, 1982, Peter Boardman and Joe Tasker made the final leap to the summit of Everest along the southeast ridge. Two days later, Chris Bonington managed to see them through binoculars: silhouetted against the sky, on the crest, but still far from their destination. It was the last vision of the two climbers. Boardman's body was found in 1992. No trace of Tasker's. Boardman and Tasker were part of that group of British climbers of the 1970s who revolutionized the style of climbing on big mountains: light and fast expeditions, with a minimum of equipment and a maximum of audacity. In their honor and by virtue of their talent for writing, the international "Boardman Tasker Award" was created in 1983. While both of Peter Boardman's two texts were also published in Italy (The Mountain of Light and Sacred Mountains), neither of the two Tasker books had been translated into Italian. Alpine Studio publishes the book which retraces all the stages of Tasker's mountaineering career, from participation in the first British winter climb of the Eiger North Face, to the first ascent of the north ridge of Kangchenjunga up to the attempts at new routes on K2. The continuous search for challenges to face, problems to solve and difficulties to overcome are the inexhaustible flame that does not interrupt his ascents.
