Alongside the imaginary characters, the reader will encounter disparate figures of men who have traveled the same roads or visited the same places, such as the explorers Burton and Thesiger, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, Artur Rimbaud and Pier Paolo Pasolini, the Negus of Ethiopia and many others, and will find himself projected into scenarios of contemporary tragedy such as September 11, the Iran-Iraq and Afghanistan wars, the exodus from Ethiopia caused by famine. Approdi clandestini is a journey that rejects exoticism and fights against the temptation of nostalgia, to lucidly describe some worlds that are disappearing.
