11 February 1971: in the company of Serge Gousseault, René Desmaison embarks on the direct route to Punta Walker of the Grandes Jorasses, on the Mont Blanc massif. It's a very difficult first, but the two progress normally until February 14, when it starts to snow.
15 February: three hundred meters from the summit there are only two days' worth of food left; They still have three ice screws and one of the ropes is three-quarters broken.
