Cortina d'Ampezzo - Dolomites 1 - ENGLISH

Nestled in the scenic Ampezzo basin, Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of the Dolomites’ best-known tourist destinations. The town lies in the upper Boite Valley, in the eastern Dolomites, and is surrounded by a grand mountain amphitheatre with the Tofane in the west, Pomagagnon in the north, Cristallo in the north-east, Faloria and Sorapiss in the east, and Becco di Mezzodì, Croda da Lago and the Nuvolau - Averau group in the south. In this guide we have also included the area to the south of Cortina, with a couple of trails outside of the basin and up the slopes of two other famous mountains in the region: Pelmo and Antelao. Cortina offers a rich and varied hiking experience, with trail difficulty levels ranging from easier, leisurely routes at the bottom of the valley to those suitable for both first-time and more experienced hikers. However, this book does not cover mountaineering and therefore more difficult and challenging trails, even if secured, have not been described. We have also tried to include interesting details about the history and landscape of the area to add a rich backdrop to each route.
